SETTING UP POP3 EMAIL ACCOUNT USING MAC MAIL
Setting up your POP3 email account on a Mac is the same whether you are using a iMac, Mac Book, Mac Book Pro, or Mac Book Air. All of these devices use the same operating system, Mac OS X, and the same email client, Mail.app. Here are the instructions to setup your POP3 email account on a Mac.
- Open Mail.
- If this is your first time running Mail, the “Welcome to Mail” Assistant will appear. Clicking next when the assistant appears will start the account setup. If the assistant does not appear then choose “Add Account” from the File menu.
- Enter your Name.
- Enter your FULL email address.
- Enter your password.
- If enabled, deselect “Automatically set up account”.
- Click Continue.
- Choose your account type. Support types are POP3 or IMAP (POP3 Recommended).
- Enter a description for your account like “Email” or “mydomainname.com Email”.
You can enter whatever you want in the description field.
- If prompted, enter your incoming mail security settings.
- For outgoing server, enter a useful description like “mail.yourdomainname.coml”.
- Enter your outgoing mail server credentials. These are identical to your incoming mail server settings.
- If prompted enter your outgoing mail security settings.
- Click Continue
- Verify your settings in the Summary section. If everything looks correct, check “Take Account Online”, otherwise correct any invalid settings.
- Click “Create” to finish the setup process.
When finished you should be returned to the Mail application which will start downloading your mail from your mail servers with in a few minutes. For the impatient you can click the “Check Mail” icon to download your email immediately.
PLEASE REMEMBER
Do not leave old mail on your mail server.
Please have your device select a suitable time-frame in which old emails will be removed from the server.
